Savor the taste of Latin America and help medical students fund their volunteer trip to Peru

Peru Health Outreach Project fundraiser gala flyerThe Peru Health Outreach Project will host its seventh annual Latin America-inspired fundraiser gala Saturday, April 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Thwing Center ballroom.

Each year, medical students from the School of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine take a volunteer trip with residents, doctors, nurses and other health care staff to rural and urban areas of Peru. They visit local clinics and set up medical posts to provide educational talks, health fairs and direct medical care to local Peruvians.

Medical students will raise money for their trip at the gala, which will feature food from diverse regions of Latin and Central America, including pupusas, fried plantains, flan and more.

The event’s entertainment will include vibrant Latin music and dancing and a local dance troupe that will showcase traditional dances of Peru.

Attendees also will have the chance to participate in a silent auction featuring items from popular local restaurants and experiences with Cleveland’s museums, shows, sports events and dance classes.

Tickets, which include dinner, cost $20 for students (with CWRU ID) and $40 for all others.

Tickets are available online.
