Mothers who kill themselves and their children see it as protection, says psychiatry’s Philip Resnick

Why would mothers want to kill their children?

LoHud.com: A mother recently killed her child and then herself—years after her sister committed a similar act. In cases such as this, “What seems like cruelty to the lay observer is not really in that mother’s mind,” said Philip Resnick, professor of psychiatry. “In her mind, it’s altruistic—she wants to kill herself and she doesn’t want to leave the child behind. She’s protecting the child.”
