Memorial service

An on-campus memorial service will be held for Joel A. Makee (LAW ’69) Thursday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. in Amasa Stone Chapel.

Makee, a former employee who served at the university for 30 years, passed away Oct. 6. During his time on campus from 1973 to 2003, he served as a university attorney and as chief legal officer.

While a student at CWRU, Makee was a board member of the Case Western Reserve Law Review.

After graduating from the School of Law, Makee was a law clerk to Honorable Jack G. Day, Judge of the Eighth District Court of Appeals of Ohio. He became a partner of Kelley, McCann & Livingstone, and later a managing partner.

Makee went on to serve on the School of Law’s Society of Benchers, an organization “to give recognition to graduates who have distinguished themselves in their professions and their communities and have brought honor to the law school.”

Public visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brown-Forward Funeral Home (17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Heights).
