Case research targets molecule’s role in late-stage breast cancer

Cleveland Jewish News: William Schiemann, associate professor of general medical sciences, led a team of researchers who found a link between a micro ribonucleic acid molecule and late-stage breast cancer. “Our micro RNA inactivates [a protein called] Bim, and we think this leads to chemo resistance to these metastatic cancers,” Schiemann said. Lower Bim levels, coupled with higher miR-181a levels, allow the spread of cancer.
