LGBT History Month and National Coming Out Day events

October is LGBT History Month, and Oct. 11 is National Coming Out Day. In celebration, the LGBT Center is sponsoring events across campus all month long.

Lecture/Q&A with Dylan Marron

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a lecture and Q&A with Dylan Marron Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center ballroom.

Marron will come to campus as part of the university’s month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage. Marron is an IFP Gotham Award- and Drama Desk-nominated writer, performer and filmmaker who focuses on social justice issues.

He also is the voice of Carlos on the podcast, “Welcome to Night Vale.”

This event is free and open to the public. It is made possible by the collaboration of numerous groups on campus: Alianza Latina/Latino Alliance, Office for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Office of Multicultural Affairs, La Alianza, The LGBT Center, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, QGrad, and the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Congress executive boards.

Safe Zone Workshops

An open Safe Zone session for students will be held Friday, Oct. 13, during community hour (12:45 to 2 p.m.) in the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Residence Hall interactive classroom.

Then, an open Safe Zone session for faculty, staff and students will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Residence Hall interactive classroom.

Discussion on Domestic Violence in the LGBT Community

Join the LGBT Center to learn about domestic violence in the LGBT community on Friday, Oct. 20, during community hour (12:45 to 2 p.m.) in Thwing Center, Room 224. Free food will be provided.
