ITS assistant director accepted to prestigious Leading Change Institute

The prestigious Leading Change Institute named Michael Thomas, assistant director of teaching and learning systems in the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS), to its class of 2016 fellows.

Michael ThomasThomas leads the design and support of classroom technologies at Case Western Reserve University. In his role, Thomas oversees the university’s Technology Enhanced Classroom initiative and MediaVision Courseware, which countless students use daily to watch recorded lecture material online.

Sponsored by EDUCAUSE and the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), the Leading Change Institute helps inspire leaders, especially ones in information services, to understand the complexities of the higher education landscape and to enact change. Fellows of this program hear about real-life challenges from cross-disciplinary professionals and devise solutions to those challenges. This 2016 class of fellows will meet in Washington, D.C., June 12-17.

“I am honored and excited to work alongside an extraordinary cohort of higher education leaders at the institute this summer,” Thomas said. “My goal is to leave the institute with the capability and understanding needed to lead transformational change, which the university needs in order to keep pace with innovation and technology.”

The Learning Change Institute is the successor to the Frye Leadership Institute, which brought together future leaders in the information sector and provided them with new skills to adjust to the changing 21st century information culture. During its nine-year run, more than 450 professionals from the U.S and abroad have participated. After restructuring in 2012, the Frye Leadership Institute became the Learning Change Institute and has furthered its mission of developing outstanding leaders.
