Hangouts Meet added to G Suite as new video conferencing tool

Google will enable Hangouts Meet in G Suite today (May 21). Hangouts Meet is an improved replacement of the video chat component in Google Hangouts. The older version of Hangouts will still be available to Case Western Reserve University users for the time being.

Starting today, when “Add Conferencing” is selected in a Google calendar meeting, the link generated will be to a Hangouts Meet video call instead of classic Hangouts. Existing classic Hangouts video meeting links will still work through mid-August for meeting links created in Google Calendar before today. Both Hangouts Meet and classic Hangouts will be available to CWRU community members.

Hangouts Meet will only work in the Chrome browser.
