Friday discussion group to cover IMF, World Bank responses to financial crisis

In previous financial crises, there was often discussion of how the IMF and World Bank tried to solve the problems, but there has been practically none since the start of the financial crisis in 2008.

The topic of this week’s Public Affairs Discussion Group will be “Does the Fire Department Have a Hose? The IMF and World Bank in the Financial Crisis.” Kathryn C. Lavelle, the Ellen and Dixon Long Associate Professor of Political Science, will lead the discussion March 2 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Kelvin Smith Library’s Dampeer Room. A leading expert in both international financial governance and how U.S. political processes influence that system, Lavelle will give her views and kick off discussion.
