All Things Bakelite: The Age of Plastic is a 56-minute film about Bakelite, the first totally synthetic plastic, invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland. Prior to inventing this world-changing material, Baekeland invented Velox photographic paper.
Hatsuo “Ken” Ishida, professor in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, is the host for the screening Friday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. in Strosacker Auditorium.
Director John Maher and executive producer Hugh Karraker, Baekeland’s great-grandson, will participate in a Q&A following the film.
The film is open to the public, free of charge.
