Faculty development workshops on Internet tools, media production set for May

All Case Western Reserve faculty members can register for two hands-on development workshops facilitated by Jared Bendis, creative new media officer at Kelvin Smith Library, and Lee Zickel, digital humanities manager at the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities.

Throughout the spring semester, a diverse group of faculty attended a 13-week New Media Literacy Reading Seminar that was aimed at changing the way people think about media. In contrast, these hands-on workshops are about both thinking and doing. Everyone has the ability to attend these workshops if they are willing to take the time.

Both workshops are free to attend, but space is strictly limited to 12 participants per series. Interested in attending either workshop or have questions? Email Jared Bendis at jared.bendis@case.edu.

Internet Tools Workshop

During this two-day introductory-level workshop, participants will work together to better understand the available tools that allow us to more efficiently manage the mass of information that is an inevitable part of being digital. Bendis and Zickel will go over how to best use Google Apps, including tips, tricks and automation in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Maps and YouTube that will help increase the efficacy of your time and productivity. They also will have hands-on experiences with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Website creation and blogging for both personal and classroom use will be covered as well.

With only 12 slots available, people should only sign up if they can commit to the full two days.

Media Production Workshop
