Discussion group to tackle climate change policy Oct. 7

Jessica F. Green, assistant professor of political science, will lead this week’s Public Affairs Discussion Group, centered on climate change policy. “Doomed in Durban? 20 Years of Climate Change Policy,” will take place Oct. 7 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Dampeer Room of Kelvin Smith Library.

The United Nations Climate Summit is scheduled to begin Nov. 28 in Durban, South Africa, while the Kyoto protocol is scheduled to expire in 2012 and the International Energy Agency found that 2010 had the highest level of emissions ever recorded. The chief climate negotiators from the European Union and the U.S. said there is no prospect that a legally binding plan to reduce emissions will be agreed upon in Durban.
