Discuss the legal perspectives of art repatriation at March 1 symposium

On Friday, March 1, the Center for Law, Technology & the Arts will present The Journal of Law, Technology & the Internet’s Symposium: “Art Repatriation.”

What role does the law play in art repatriation today? Can individuals and organizations be required to return artwork if they acquired the pieces through legal means? Does it matter whether what was legal at the time of acquisition would currently be considered legal? The laws of several nations have answers to these questions, usually addressing the issue as they would the rightful possession of any other item of tangible property. But a body of international law recently has emerged addressing these issues, changing previous analysis.

A panel, including Case Western Reserve University faculty members Jennifer Neils and Dale Nance, will address the resulting issues from a variety of perspectives.

The symposium will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the Case Western Reserve University’s School of Law Moot Courtroom (A59).
