“Demystifying Drag”

Students are invited to join Spectrum to prepare for the Drag Ball with “Demystifying Drag,” featuring Case Western Reserve University alumni Lady J Martinez, Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the LGBT Center (Tinkham Veale University Center, Suite 179).

Lady J Martinez will guide attendees through the basic steps of building their unique drag face, from contouring their bone structure to deciding between endless worlds of different drag aesthetics to suit their style.

The class also will cover drag queen history spanning the glamour of the 1920s to the popping, dipping, spinning world of voguing that emerged from Harlem Ballroom drag, as well as punks and revolutionary queens who fought for today’s LGBTQ+ rights.

There also will be a Q&A session.

The Drag Ball will be held Friday, Feb. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Tinkaham Veale University Center, ballrooms A and B.
