Build public policy, advocacy skills in Mandel Center workshop

The Mandel Center Alumni Association will sponsor “Building a Nonprofit Advocacy Toolkit” Oct. 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Mandel Center Building. The workshop will help individuals start building public policy and advocacy skills by learning how to identify the needs of constituents, prioritize issues, effectively communicate to policymakers, mobilize members and leaders and understand rules of advocacy and lobbying.

Speakers will be from diverse backgrounds such as law firms, nonprofit members and council members. They are: Tim Cosgrove, partner in Squire, Sanders and Dempsey; Bill Joseph, partner in Weston Hurd LLP; Julian Rogers (MNO ’08), Cuyahoga County Council member; David Rothstein, director of asset building research at Policy Matters Ohio; and Alesha Washington (MNO ’07), manager of government and community relations at Center for Families and Children.
