Bell Tolling in Remembrance of Martin Luther King on April 4

In remembrance of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the McGaffin Carillon will join with bell towers in Memphis, Atlanta, and around the world to toll 39 times—once for each year of his life—on Wednesday evening, April 4. In our time zone, bells will toll at 7:05 p.m., shortly after the moment 50 years ago that evening when an assassin’s bullet cut short the Civil Rights Movement leader’s life. The Friends of the McGaffin Carillon in University Circle and the Church of the Covenant hope the McGaffin Tower’s neighbors and passersby will appreciate this reminder to pause for reflection on Dr. King’s legacy and on the just future that he envisioned for all of us.
